Where to stay, how to get around, what to do in TromsoThe author of the article, H. Skogheim, is one of Tromsø's inhabitants and has lived in the city for decades. Here are some of his questions and answers about Tromso. |
Things to know if and when traveling to TromsoThis article contains opinions that include the following: accommodation, transport, activities. Where links are made to pages in Norwegian; use an internet service to translate the Norwegian page into your language.Accommodation - where to stayIt is possible to stay overnight in hotels, apartments and other places.
TransportUse the Svipper app when traveling around Tromsø by bus (or boat). There is no train connection to the city. The nearest train station is in Narvik. More about transport within or to Tromso.
ActivitiesIt is entirely possible to see the northern lights / Aurora borealis from the city. Find a place with little light around, for example at Prestvannet or Charlottenlund at the top of the island. Telegrafbukta may also be an alternative. I personally see the northern lights quite nicely from our garden in Tromsdalen. In any case, move out of the city center. This requires, of course, that there are northern lights in the sky.
Is it possible to see reindeers in the wild?
It is not unusual to encounter reindeer on Kvaløya, either in the fields, in people's gardens, or as the picture shows; in a roundabout.
